By day I’m a software developer, by night I’m a musician and at weekends I try out photography. I used to be a (non evil) lobbyist and activitist.
As an Open Source software developer, I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with several successful Open Source projects and you may find my code in The Apache Webserver, the Apache portable runtime, Apache Spamassassin, Apache Tomcat, the NSD DNS server, the exim Mail server, Oracle Solaris and Debian/Ubuntu. My own projects include multicast netcat, apticron and a Python library and “backer upper” for Flickr that actually works.
As a musician, I’ve sang, played, toured and recorded with many Irish and Celtic music artists - in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the US. I mainly play guitar, cittern, bouzouki, banjo, piano and am trying to re-learn fiddle and whistles. Myself and Colleen Raney have a new duo album out; Cuan.
As an activitist and lobbyist, I was a founding member and leader for Irish Citizens for Trustworthy E-voting. Through our efforts, we prevented the introduction of untrustworthy e-voting machines into Irish elections. I also played a small part in achieving the same effect in the Netherlands. I was a founding director of Digital Rights Ireland, the Irish equivalent of the EFF.
As a photographer, I average about one good photo per hundred taken. But it’s getting better.
In my spare time I like to hike, even in the snow as can be seen above, to read, and to watch 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, House, Mad Men, Modern Family, The Daily Show.
